Skate the State - a 5 day, 430 mile skateboarding journey across Nebraska

The drive out

June 13th, 2012

The drive out west was a long one, but it’s going to feel much longer in the next 5 days.

Initially there were some vehicle issues, but after car saavy TJ Timmermann fixed them, the crew arrived in Scottsbluff.

Hours in the van gave the different crew members some time to reflect on their upcoming journey. Mike enjoyed bringing back memories of the fun and difficulties of last year.  “This whole thing is a big what-if. The potential of what this can mean for the Bay and the kids back home is what this trip is all about.  It’s not supposed to be a fun trip, it’s to push yourself to do something to help others.”

Angie, who’s once again along to help document the trip said she’s really excited to capture the event and  talking to people you’d never be able to reach. “It’s good to just walk up and talk to people about Skate the State. I have an idea about what’s its like, but it will also be different. I’m interested to see what challenges we have this year.

The rest of the guys haven’t done anything like this before.  Lee doesn’t say a whole lot, but when he does, it’s rememberable. “I’ve bitten off more than I can chew,” was all he had to say.

Nate, Ryan and TJ were feeling anxious about the trip, but mostly just want to get out and start pushing.

Tonight is sleep in Scottsbluff and tomorrow morning it all starts at the state line.
